Lauren Neil, Principal
Mrs. Neil has been in education for 12 years as a teacher, coach, athletic coordinator and an administrator. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, Hook’em Horns, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Movement Science. Mrs. Neil received her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.
For the past two years Mrs. Neil has served as the Assistant Principal at FMS. Prior to coming to Florence, Mrs. Neil was an assistant principal at Wagner Middle School in Georgetown ISD. Before moving into administration Mrs. Neil served as a Girls Athletic Coordinator and coach teaching PE, pre-athletics, and athletics. Mrs. Neil also taught 8th grade Science for 4 years.
Mrs. Neil is looking forward to her third year with the HERD at FMS and is excited to step into the Principal role! She believes that all students are deserving of a quality education and is excited to assist students and staff with their educational journey. Mrs. Neil can’t wait to watch our students grow this year as we come together to Inspire, Empower, and Achieve!

Mark Shifflett, Assistant Principal
Mark Shifflett was born and raised in Killeen and cares deeply about giving back to the community. He graduated from Harker Heights High School in 2006 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas in 2010. The very next year he began his career as an educator at Killeen High School, teaching there for 12 years. While in the classroom, he served as the Mathematics Teacher Leader as well as a member of the SBDM Committee. He coached football, baseball, and track and served as the Chess and Rosary Club sponsor. In 2018, Mr. Shifflett earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University and has served as an assistant principal in Killeen ISD for 3 years. As an assistant principal at Florence Middle School, he strives to create a positive learning environment and hopes to develop lasting relationships with students and stakeholders. His goal for students is that they enjoy coming to school and develop a growth mindset towards learning.
In his free time, Mr. Shifflett enjoys grilling, watching football, and relaxing at home with his wife and two daughters, Lucy and Quinn. His family is excited for the 26-27 school year and are proud to be a part of the FISD family. Go Buffs!
