Florence ISD contracts with the City of Florence, Texas to provide a police officer on each campus. Florence ISD also has a school guardian program. We prioritize the safety of our students and staff. This page will contain information on school safety meetings and general information as needed.
In an effort to create a safe school climate and culture, and a collaborative environment around school safety, Florence ISD has established a District safety and security committee. This committee (made up of district staff, campus staff, community partners, and parents) provides advice and guidance to the district on many areas related to safety and security, including emergency planning, drills, training and safety assessments.
The committee meets regularly throughout the school year and summer to review various topics related to school safety and security.

House Bill 3, Section 19 (88th Texas Legislature) adds Section 37.222 to the Texas Education Code, which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), to provide to each school district and open-enrollment charter school information and other resources regarding the safe storage of firearms, including information on section 46.13 of the Texas Penal Code, for distribution by the district or school. The Texas DPS has created a public relations campaign – Keep ’Em Safe Texas – that offers free downloadable resources to promote safe gun storage. Districts must provide this information to the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in the district or school. The Texas School Safety Center advises districts to provide this information at least once annually.Safe Gun Storage Website - STOPiT

FISD Visitor Management
In an effort to maintain the safety and security of all Florence ISD campuses, the district provides uniform procedures to both control access and manage visitors to our facilities. In an effort to better protect our campuses, front offices will not be accessible to the public without staff allowing access.
The following outlines the general procedures for entering our facilities.
Process for Visitors Entering a Florence ISD Campus
Signs will direct visitors to the front office for check-in. If you are not greeted by a staff member, please ring the buzzer and staff will be notified there is a visitor.
- Office staff will grant access to the secure area for check-in.
- Visitors will be asked to provide a valid, state/federal issued identification card, which will be scanned using our visitor management system, and to identify the purpose for their visit.
- If the scan meets school/site criteria, the visitor will be allowed appropriate access after receiving a visitor’s badge.
- All visitors must wear their visitor's badge at all times while in the facility.
- The visitor will be requested to return to the office to return their badge, and check out when their visit is completed to be logged out of the system.
Employees Not Assigned to the Campus/Site
Signs will direct visitors to the front office for check-in. If you are not greeted by a staff member, please ring the buzzer and staff will be notified there is a visitor.
- FISD employees who have a district badge visible do not have to generate a visitor badge, but should still sign in to the front office.
- FISD employees who do not have a district badge visible will be required to scan their Driver’s License or ID Card into the visitor management system.
- FISD employees are requested to check out from the front office when their visit is completed.
Law Enforcement/Emergency Responders/Government Officials
Signs will direct visitors to the front office for check-in. If you are not greeted by a staff member, please ring the buzzer and staff will be notified there is a visitor.
- Law enforcement and other first responders should bypass the sign-in process when responding to an emergency.
- Law enforcement, first responders or other government personnel on official business should be asked to present their identification similar to other visitors. However, these visitors have an option to show their badge or agency-issued identification to bypass having their ID scanned into the visitor management system.
- In non-emergency situations or when not conducting official business, visiting responders should sign in to the visitor log.
Identification may be requested of any person on the property. District and campus administrators may refuse to allow a person to enter or may eject a person from property under the District's control if the person refuses to leave peaceably on request and poses substantial risk of harm to any person, or behaves in a manner that is inappropriate for a school setting.
